Part of a regular series:
Throughout the year, GNACsports.com uses this space to profile conference student-athletes who are members of their respective institutions’Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). In addition to providing feedback on the student-athlete experience, conference and institutional SAAC members also offer input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes’ lives on NCAA member institution campuses.
Why did you choose to attend SFU?: I chose to attend SFU for the volleyball program because I loved the culture and atmosphere of the team. My current coach, Gina, had built something special, and I wanted to be a part of it.
What is the most important thing you've learned from balancing the demands of athletics and academics?: Time management and mental health. Time management is something that I wasn’t the best at, but being a student-athlete, you have to be able to manage your time. Prioritizing your mental health as much as possible is something else that I learned because it allows you to be the best teammate, student, friend and partner possible.
Most memorable sports-related moment: Beating the top-ranked team at home in 2022. This game was bone-chilling and was so special to be a part of.
The best advice I’d give to an incoming freshman: Work hard and your time will come.
What hobbies/passions do you have outside of your sport?: Some of my biggest passions include working with children with mental and physical disabilities. This summer I worked as a behavioral therapist for kids with autism and it was the most rewarding and challenging job I’ve had yet.
Future goals after graduation: Getting my master's degree in occupational therapy.
