Sutherland Vlahovich

Western Oregon shortstop Tyler Sutherland and Central Washington pitcher Linse Vlahovich have been selected the 2009 GNAC Softball Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. Anthony Stone, who led Montana State Billings to its first GNAC softball title, and Gary Frederick, who coached Central Washington to a school-record 33 victories, were selected GNAC Co-Coaches of the Year .

Sutherland won the GNAC batting title with a .420 average, finishing 21 points ahead of CWU catcher Holly Rossman. The WOU shortstop also led the league in runs scored (47), doubles (22) and stolen bases (17). She also hit nine home runs and drove in 30 runs. Vlahovich led the GNAC in wins with 23 and strikeouts with 219 accounting for more than 2/3s of CWU's victories and setting school records in both categories.

Stone, a 2002 graduate of Montana State Billings, led the Yellowjackets to a conference title in his second season in Billings and now has a career record at MSUB of 67-36, including 39-15 this season. Frederick, who graduated from CWU 50 years ago (1959), led his team to a 33-20 record, a 13 ½ game improvement over last season when the Wildcats were 17-27. He is now 280-345 in 15 seasons.
