Woodman Returns From Water To Lead Western Washington Women
![]() |
Two years ago, women's soccer defender Meghan Woodman helped lead Western Washington University to a 13-6-1 record and its first appearance at the NCAA Division II Far West Regional. That season, she recorded a team-high eight assists and scored three goals.
In 2007, an ankle injury sidelined her for the entire season as the Vikings narrowly missed a berth at nationals.
After rehabbing from her surgically repaired ankle, which forced her to walk on crutches for two months, Woodman is eager for the upcoming campaign and wants to make an impact like in 2006 when she was named a first-team Daktronics and second-team National Soccer Coaches Association of America Far West Region and first-team Great Northwest Athletic Conference all-star. Seattle Pacific Seeks Sixth GNAC Women's Soccer Conference Title

Though every team has at least seven returning starters, the real race in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer chase this fall likely will be for second place.
Seattle Pacific, which reached the NCAA Final Four last season, is a unanimous pick to claim its sixth GNAC title in the past seven years.
A year ago, the Falcons cruised to a 14-0 conference record and finished 23-1 overall.
Though they graduated Sarah Martinez, the GNAC's all-time leading scorer with 122 points (49 goals, 24 assists), midfielder Kara Hamby, who earned all-region honors, and defender Jessica Gerstmann, the rest of the Falcon starting lineup for coach Chuck Sekyra returns intact.
