PORTLAND, Ore. – Three GNAC teams went 2-0 in last week’s conference matches, none maybe more meaningful than Simon Fraser’s.

The Clan, who are tied for fourth in the conference with Central Washington, won two matches to earn their first two victories of the season.

The Clan’s first win on Thursday, a 1-0 triumph over Western Oregon, snapped a nine game losing streak dating back to last season. This is also the first time SFU has won back-to-back conference matches since joining the conference in 2011.

On Saturday the team beat Saint Martin’s 1-0 for its second conference victory. These are the first two wins for new Simon Fraser coach Annie Hamel.

While Simon Fraser ended a losing streak, the No. 22 Western Washington women were extending its home winning streak.

The Vikings defeated Saint Martin’s 2-1 in dramatic fashion on Thursday on a double overtime goal by Emily Webster.

On Saturday, Western Washington scored in the first half and used its dominating defense to hold on for the 1-0 win over Western Oregon.

These two wins extend WWU’s home win streak to 16 matches. The streak started in November of 2012, also with a victory over Western Oregon.

Montana State Billings went 2-0 on the weekend with a huge 2-1 victory over Seattle Pacific on Saturday. MSUB, which moved into a tie with SPU for second place in the conference, also knocked off Central Washington 1-0 Thursday.

One of the craziest finishes in the GNAC this season happened Saturday with Central Washington edging Northwest Nazarene.

Down 2-1 at half, CWU’s Hadli Farrand scored in the 80th minute to tie the match up at two. The first overtime produced no results and the match was looking like a tie in the second before Farrand knocked in a loose ball for the game winner with one second left on the clock for the 3-2 victory.
