MSUB's Hannah Cooper broke school records in the weight throw and high jump last week in South Dakota.
PORTLAND, Ore. – Broken school records on the basketball court and in track and field took the lead in the latest Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week selections, announced on Monday.
Central Washington’s
Sunny Huerta topped the school record books in career points with 1,698, surpassing Rose Shaw (1,696 points from 1998-2002) for No. 1 on the all-time list. The Wildcat senior also climbed one spot to No. 7 on the GNAC all-time scoring leaders list. “I couldn’t be happier for Sunny,” said CWU head coach
Randi Richardson. “She embodies everything we would want from someone in a Wildcat uniform and she has done it her whole career. I am so proud of her and who she is in every part of her life. Her innate scoring ability and feel for the game is something that is God-given and all hers. She has always had that inside of her and it has been so fun to watch that continue to come out the last four years in practice and games. She has been one of the most consistent players we have ever had – her work ethic and eagerness to be coached and grow speaks for itself. She is an amazing teammate and has the best character and heart you’ll find. Our whole program is so elated for Sunny to reach this amazing achievement.”
Huerta broke the school scoring record and climbed to No. 7 in GNAC history last week.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sunny Huerta – Central Washington University
Fifth-career player of the week, second this season.
Huerta fueled her team to a pair of victories last week and broke the school scoring record in the process. In an efficient 28 minutes on the floor against Saint Martin’s on Thursday, Huerta made 9 of 10 field goals on her way to 25 points – her third-highest total of the season. She followed that by just missing a double-double against Western Oregon on Saturday, scoring 17 points and adding nine rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists. Overall on the week Huerta averaged 21.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting 50.0% from the field (14-for-28). The Wildcat senior upped her season scoring average to 18.3 points per game, ranking her second in the conference.
CWU Head Coach Randi Richardson: “Sunny had a big week on the road for us. She stepped up huge in the second half of a very competitive SMU game where we never really were able to couple up stops and scores to go on a run. She always had a response for us, scoring 21 of 25 points in the second half and shooting an insane 90% from the field. Against WOU she backed it up with nearly a double-double and breaking our school’s all-time scoring record.”
Also Nominated: Jazzpher Evans, Alaska Anchorage; Destiny Reimers, Alaska Fairbanks; Dyauni Boyce, Montana State Billings; Kendall Clark, Northwest Nazarene; Jada Travis, Saint Martin’s; Emilia Bishop, Seattle Pacific; Sophia Wisotzki, Simon Fraser; Alyson Deaver, Western Washington.
MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kael Robinson – Montana State University Billings
First-career player of the week.
Robinson helped the Yellowjackets to a pair of crucial wins last week, as they topped Alaska Fairbanks 83-70 and beat Alaska Anchorage 66-64 at home. Robinson led all GNAC players in scoring last week with 24.5 points per game while shooting 63.3% (19-for-30) from the floor and grabbing 7.5 rebounds per game. In the win over the Nanooks, Robinson made 8 of 13 shots on his way to a season-high 26 points, while adding nine rebounds. He followed that by making a season-high 11 field goals in the narrow victory over the Seawolves, finishing with 23 points and six rebounds while playing all 40 minutes. In his first season with the Yellowjackets, the senior from Hamilton, New Zealand, ranks eighth in the conference in scoring with 15.5 points per game and is shooting 51.9% from the field.
MSUB Head Coach Luke Fennelly: “Kael really stepped up last week to help us earn two hard-fought wins. He is asked to do a lot and he works his tail off, so it is nice to see that hard work pay off. Not only was he an efficient scorer but he was a stud on the defensive end as well. I am proud of the toughness he and the rest of the team showed last week, especially now that we head into the second half of league play.”
Also Nominated: Tyler Burraston, Alaska Anchorage; Chris Lee, Alaska Fairbanks; Garrett Anderson, Central Washington; Kye Dickson, Northwest Nazarene; Diego Trejo-Delgado, Saint Martin’s; Jaxon Nap, Seattle Pacific; Irish Coquia, Simon Fraser; Jason Gallant, Western Oregon; Trevor White, Western Washington.

WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Hannah Cooper – Montana State University Billings
First-career athlete of the week.
Cooper broke the MSU Billings program records in both the high jump and weight throw last week, posting a standout performance at the Myrle Hanson Open. The Yellowjacket sophomore recorded a weight throw of 55-3.5 feet (16.85 meters), finishing first among a field of 17 competitors. She also cleared a high jump bar set at 5-6.5 feet (1.69 meters) to win that event as well. Cooper’s weight throw got her onto the GNAC indoor all-time top-10 list as well, standing as the ninth-best in conference indoor history. It was also the best weight throw by any GNAC athlete thus far in 2025. Cooper’s high jump was third-best among GNAC athletes this season, and it landed her on the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying list.
MSUB Head Coach Jonathan Woehl: “Hannah had an outstanding meet and seeing her succeed is heartwarming. She has overcome a lot of things to get to where she is now. Her hard-work mentality and positive attitude pushes all her teammates to improve too.”
Also Nominated: Vivien Liessfeld, Alaska Anchorage; Jazmin Mendoza, Central Washington; Ujunwa Nwokoma, Western Oregon; Nicole Avery, Western Washington.
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
E’lexis Hollis – Central Washington University
Eighth-career track athlete of the week, second this season.
Hollis had a strong showing at the Nevada Invitational, highlighting her weekend with a personal best in the 200 meters. Hollis, who already had the school record in the event, ran a time of 24.06 seconds to finish second among Division II competitors among a field of 66 runners. The effort bumped Hollis up to No. 2 on the GNAC all-time indoor performance list. The GNAC record holder in the 60-meters, Hollis also competed in that event last week posting a time of 7.39 seconds to finish second among Division II competitors in the finals.
CWU Head Coach Jonathan Hill: “E’lexis is steadily improving in her understanding of concepts and is getting more comfortable trying new things in unfamiliar venues. I was really pleased how she maintained her composure and executed her race plans. She is headed in the right direction.”
Also Nominated: Madeline Severson, Montana State Billings.

MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Joshua Caleb – University of Alaska Anchorage
Fourth-career track athlete of the week, second this season.
Caleb had another strong showing at the Nevada Invitational, cruising to victory in the 60-meters with a time of 6.59. That was just off his freshly minted GNAC-record time of 6.57 seconds, which he ran two weeks ago at the same location. Caleb topped a finals field of eight runners that included three Division I competitors and one professional. He also finished second among 55 competitors in the 200 meters, running a time of 21.08 seconds. Caleb ranks first on the Division II performance list in the 60 meters and 200 meters and is fifth in the 400 meters.
UAA Head Coach Ryan McWilliams: “Joshua continues to show consistency and poise in his races. He has learned a lot from his freshman year and that is noticeably having a positive impact on his conceptions. There are certainly a few more aspects of races he can improve on too. The good balance of doing things right and having stuff to improve on that combine with his consistency has us feeling confident.”
Also Nominated: David Brown, Central Washington; Mason Dezember, Montana State Billings.

MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Gabe Burchfield – Western Oregon University
First-career field athlete of the week.
Burchfield turned in a personal best in the heptathlon, posting his name onto the provisional national qualifying list as well. The junior from Grants Pass, Ore., racked up 4,881 points at the Nevada Invitational, putting him at No. 17 on the Division II performance list this season. Burchfield’s strong multis performance was fueled by improvements in the running events, as he posted personal bests of 7.33 seconds in the 60 meters and 2:59.11 in the 1,000 meters. Burchfield’s heptathlon points total was far and away the best by a GNAC athlete thus far in 2025.
Also Nominated: Wes Kriete, Central Washington; Payton Kokot, Montana State Billings; Kaden Miller, Western Washington.
