INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time since 2018 three Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer teams earned spots into the NCAA West Region Championships, with the playoff field being announced on Monday afternoon.

Western Washington earned the No. 1 regional seed and will host a three-team portion of the bracket in Bellingham, Wash. Simon Fraser claimed the No. 3 seed and will square off against No. 6 seed Western Oregon in the opening round of the tournament. The match between the Red Leafs and Wolves will be hosted by Cal Poly Pomona in Pomona, Calif.

The Vikings (14-1-6) won their GNAC-record 11th regular-season title this fall, going 11-0-3 in league play and accumulating 36 points. WWU brings an unbeaten streak of 16 consecutive matches into the regional tournament, where it will face the winner of No. 4 seed Azusa Pacific (11-3-4) and No. 5 seed Point Loma (10-3-5). Western Washington won NCAA Division II national titles in 2016 and 2022.

Simon Fraser is fresh off a penalty-kick shootout triumph over WWU at the GNAC Championships, as the Red Leafs secured their third consecutive conference tournament title. SFU went 13-2-5 overall on the season and finished second in the GNAC with 30 points on a league record of 9-2-3. SFU will be in search of its first-ever regional victory, having exited in the opening round of the tournament in each of the last two seasons.

Western Oregon (11-4-5) will look for a revenge win over the Red Leafs, who topped the Wolves 1-0 in the GNAC Championships semifinals last Thursday in Burnaby, B.C. It will be the first-ever regional tournament berth for WOU, which finished third in the GNAC standings at 8-2-4 for 28 points.
