WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPS
Western Washington earned its conference-record 11th GNAC regular-season title by going undefeated (11-0-3) in league play and accumulating 36 points to claim the No. 1 tournament seed. That pits the Vikings against rival Seattle Pacific (which has 10 GNAC regular-season titles), as the Falcons drew the No. 4 seed after going 6-3-5 in league play and totaling 23 points in the standings. The women’s tournament has been heavily dominated by the two perennial powers, who have combined to win nine of the 12 tournament titles since its inception in 2012 (WWU 6 tournament titles, SPU 3 tournament titles).
The other side of the bracket will feature the two-time reigning tournament champion in No. 2 seed Simon Fraser, which went 9-2-3 in conference play and finished second with 30 points in the standings. The Red Leafs will look to become the second team in GNAC history to capture three straight women’s soccer tournament trophies, with Western Washington (2015-17) the only school to achieve that feat. SFU will square off against No. 3 seed Western Oregon in Thursday’s second semifinal, with the Wolves going 8-2-4 in league play and finishing third with 28 points in the standings.
MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPS
The inaugural GNAC Men’s Soccer Championships will feature the top three teams in the regular-season standings. No. 1 seed Western Oregon and No. 2 seed Seattle Pacific were the regular-season co-champions, each going 6-2-2 in league play and earning 20 points. The Wolves went 1-0-1 against the Falcons in the two head-to-head matches, earning WOU the top seed and a bye into the championship match.
Seattle Pacific will face No. 3 seed Western Washington in Thursday’s semifinal match, with the winner advancing to the title tilt against WOU. Western Washington finished just one point behind the co-champions, going 6-3-1 in league play to collect 19 points.
The winners of both the women’s and men’s GNAC Championships tournaments will earn the conference’s automatic berths into the NCAA West Region Championships, which run Nov. 20-23 at campus sites.
Western Oregon earned the No. 1 seed into the GNAC Men's Soccer Championships with a last-second game-winner in the final match of the regular season.
