COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Looking to become the second school in Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s golf history to win three straight conference titles, Simon Fraser has its eyes on the prize ahead of the 2025 GNAC Championships, presented by the Coeur d’Alene Resort.
The Red Leafs won their second straight GNAC Championships crown last spring in historic fashion, breaking the tournament record for team score at 596 (298-298) and becoming the first team to post a sub-600 two-round total since the event was founded in 2011. It was the second straight year that SFU broke the tournament scoring record, as it scored a 609 to claim the 2023 crown as well. Overall SFU has won five conference tournament titles.
Simon Fraser's women won their second straight GNAC title in 2024.
Reigning GNAC Freshman of the Year
Dana Smith also made history at the event last spring, breaking the tournament record with a 2-under-par 142 (72-70). Smith’s historic second round was enough to give her the individual title, as she became just the second freshman in conference history to claim the tournament crown.

The Red Leafs are certainly the favorites on paper to defend their consecutive GNAC titles. SFU has the top team scoring average in the league, has won two tournaments this year including the Southern Colorado Open a month ago, and has five players who all have career top-10 finishes at the conference tournament. SFU is also in the driver’s seat to advance to the NCAA West Region Championships, where it tied for 11th a season ago.
Meera Minhas, the 2023-24 GNAC Player of the Year, was the team’s top regional finisher last year with a three-round score of 224 (71-78-75) to tie for 27th place among a field of 66 competitors. This season she ranks fifth in the conference with a scoring average of 75.8 strokes per round.
Dana Smith will look to defend last year’s individual GNAC crown, as she seeks to become the first woman in conference history to claim multiple championship wins. Junior
Izzy Ferguson meanwhile has the lowest scoring average in the conference, entering the championship event at 74.7 strokes per round this year.

The Vikings have won more GNAC Championships titles than anyone, claiming the first five crowns and adding two more in 2021 and 2022. WWU has a lot on the line this week at the CDA Resort, as a strong performance could help bolster their grip on what is currently a No. 18 regional ranking. Junior
Emma Worgum broke the tournament single-round scoring record with a 3-under-par 69 in the opening round last spring and was the runner-up at the 2024 championship. She joins SFU’s Minhas as the only other player in this year’s field with two-career top-10 finishes at the conference tournament.
Kasey Maralack is another seasoned returner for WWU, who will be playing in her third GNAC Championships after a tie for sixth place last spring.
Lauren F. Lee, the 2023-24 GNAC Newcomer of the Year, holds WWU’s top scoring average this spring as she ranks third in the GNAC at 75.5 strokes per round.
