GNAC POTW: Bell’s gem earns final baseball honor

PORTLAND, Ore. – A 13-strikeout, complete-game effort by Western Oregon right-hander Devin Bell highlighted the latest list of Great Northwest Athletic Conference Players of the Week, announced on Monday.
 
8834BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Devin Bell – Western Oregon
Third-career pitcher of the week, third this season.
 
Bell was outstanding once again on the mound for the Wolves, going the distance in WOU’s 5-1 win over Saint Martin’s on Thursday. The right-hander matched his season high with 13 strikeouts, while allowing just one unearned run in his nine innings pitched. The Saints managed just four baserunners against Bell – drawing two walks and managing two hits in the game. Bell now has 77 strikeouts in 75 1/3 innings pitched and lowered his season ERA to 2.39 with the stellar performance.

8948BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Mohler – Western Oregon
First-career player of the week.
 
Mohler had a big series last week against Saint Martin’s, leading all GNAC players with seven RBIs across the four-game set. Mohler slashed .385/.526/.846, with his slugging percentage leading all GNAC players as well. He recorded a double, triple and home run in the series, and played perfect defense in 28 chances at first base including five double plays. Mohler saved his best game for last, going 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run, six RBIs and three runs scored in the series finale against the Saints.

WOMEN’S CREW OF THE WEEK
Western Washington Varsity 8+
Bow – Mia Marie Knipe, 2 – Jenna Buckholt, 3 – Paige Donner, 4 – Sarah Plemons, 5 – Maddie Kidd, 6, Sonja Gebhardt, 7 – Taylor Wall, Stroke – Emma Clark, Cox – Janisa Cook.
 
Leading the way at the University of Washington Windermere Cup on Saturday, the nationally-second ranked Vikings had a strong showing in advance of the fast-approaching GNAC Women’s Rowing Championships. WWU’s unit posted a time of 6:48.214 minutes in the women’s collegiate open 8+ heat, finishing second only to the Division I UW Huskies.

8949WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Olivia Flack – Western Oregon
First-career track athlete of the week.
 
Flack ran a collegiate best in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, on her way to a second-place finish at the Oregon State High Performance meet. The senior clocked a time of 11:11.10 minutes, with only the University of Nevada’s Natalie Roberts finishing ahead of her among the field of 16 competitors. It was a more than seven-second improvement upon her previous season best of 11:18.26 minutes which she ran two weeks ago. The performance moved Flack up to No. 6 on the GNAC performance list for the 2025 outdoor campaign.

8950WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Payton Elenbaas – Central Washington
First-career field athlete of the week.
 
Elenbaas had a steady showing at the Oregon State High Performance meet, placing third in the hammer throw at 161-7 feet (49.26 meters) and sixth in the discus at 140-5 feet (42.80 meters). The Wildcat senior currently sits second on the GNAC performance list in the hammer with a season-best throw of 176-6 feet (53.81 meters), which stands as a provisional national qualifying mark. She is also fourth on the conference performance list in the discus with a season-best throw of 140-5 feet (42.80 meters).

8951MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jack Pratapas – Central Washington
First-career track athlete of the week.
 
Pratapas clocked a personal-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Oregon State High Performance meet last week. The junior posted a time of 9:43.27 minutes, which was enough to win a heat that featured 11 total competitors. The Wildcat junior moved his name up to No. 12 on the GNAC performance list this spring after his season debut in the event.

8905MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Mark Warren – Western Oregon
Seventh-career field athlete of the week, fourth this season.
 
Warren continued his stellar spring season, clearing 60 meters in the hammer throw for the fourth consecutive meet. At the Linfield Open on Saturday, the Wolves senior won the event with a toss of 198-11 feet (60.64 meters) to top a field of 22 throwers. Warren also placed fifth in the shot put last week, with a top throw of 44-0.5 feet (13.42 meters). Warren leads the GNAC this year with a hammer throw of 202-3 feet (61.64 meters).
