GNAC POTW: Judah lifts Falcons Straight to the top of standings

Judah Straight had three goal contributions amid last week's two GNAC wins for the first-place Falcons.
PORTLAND, Ore. – Delivering three goal contributions including two on game-winners last week, Seattle Pacific men’s soccer forward Judah Straight headlined the latest batch of Great Northwest Athletic Conference Players of the Week announced on Monday.

10665MEN’S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Judah Straight – Seattle Pacific University
First-career player of the week.

Straight helped Seattle Pacific win both its matches in a pivotal week within conference play, providing important offensive contributions throughout the weekend. Straight provided the assist on each of his team’s game-winning goals last week, in addition to adding his fourth goal scored of the season. In Thursday’s 3-1 win over Simon Fraser, Straight set up Hugh Lear for the game-winner in the 79th minute before adding an insurance goal with an 87th-minute finish to secure three points. On Saturday against Western Washington, Straight delivered another assist to JP Guzman in the 79th minute to break a 1-1 draw and propel SPU to the victory. The big performance helped the Falcons climb into sole possession of first place in the GNAC standings with 16 points.

SPU Head Coach Kevin Sakuda: “Judah has been a fantastic addition to the team this year. He is so tough to deal with when he is running downhill at a defender, and he is a player who can change a game with his creativity and quality in front of goal. Winning requires players to step up and make plays in big moments, and Judah has consistently done that for us all year long.”

Also Nominated: Maddox Macrelli, Northwest Nazarene; Shahbod Jafary, Simon Fraser; Archie Dhima, Western Oregon; Jose Perez, Western Washington.

10666MEN’S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Willem Ficek – Seattle Pacific University
First-career player of the week.

Ficek was equally instrumental in helping the Falcons collect six points last week, earning the win in each contest between the posts. Ficek made three saves in the triumph over Simon Fraser on Thursday, before following with four stops in the win over the Vikings on Saturday. That lowered his season goals-against average to 1.23 and his save percentage to .719, each ranking him third in the conference.

SPU Head Coach Kevin Sakuda: “Willem has been outstanding for us. He gives our group a lot of confidence with his presence in goal – not only making big saves when called upon but also in his composure to play out from the back. He has been incredibly consistent for us and his ability to step up when we need him most has been a big part of the success of the team this week and over the entire season.”

Also Nominated: Elijah Brockl, Northwest Nazarene.

10667WOMEN’S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jaylee Reynolds – Central Washington University
First-career player of the week.

Reynolds led all GNAC players with two goals scored last week, finding the back of the net in each of the Wildcats’ contests. Against Seattle Pacific on Thursday, she scored a game-tying goal in the 71st minute to help give her team a chance for points in an eventual 2-1 defeat. She followed that with her first game-winning goal of the season in Saturday’s 2-1 triumph over Montana State Billings. Reynolds tucked home a finish in the 65th minute, which proved to be an instrumental finish to help her team secure three points and remain in strong contention for a GNAC Championships berth. Reynolds has a team-leading five goals this fall including three goals in her last four contests. In her two-year career at CWU she has found the back of the net nine times in 32 contests.

CWU Head Coach John Hawks: “To see Jaylee get rewarded this week for the work she has put in all year was awesome to witness. She is a fierce competitor and a dynamic attacker. Her consistent work rate in training and games to refine her craft is a testament to her continued success, and it reflects what this group is as a whole and who we are becoming as a program.”

Also Nominated: Jordyn Daigle, Montana State Billings; Attie Jo Westbrook, Northwest Nazarene; Andie Buckley, Seattle Pacific; Kiera Scott, Simon Fraser; Audrey Holdridge, Western Washington.

10668WOMEN’S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Olivia Connell – Western Washington University
Second-career player of the week, first this season.

Not only was Connell lights-out on the WWU back line but she came through with a game-winning goal to help the Vikings extend their GNAC unbeaten streak and clinch a berth in the conference tournament. After a complete 90-minute effort in Thursday’s 1-0 win over Saint Martin’s, Connell converted a penalty kick in the 39th minute of Saturday’s 1-0 win over Western Oregon. A senior captain for the two-time defending GNAC champions, Connell has played every minute of the season and has scored two game-winning goals. In her four-year career she has started 74 matches for the Vikings, racking up 6,357 minutes played and contributing five goals and six assists.

WWU Head Coach Travis Connell: “Liv is playing at a really high level right now. She impacts our games in so many ways as she is involved in our defending, contributes to our attack and is very dangerous on restarts. Last week was no different. She made some huge plays on defense, was part of more attacking actions than any other player on our roster and scored the game-wining goal in a restart.”

Also Nominated: Danika Galbraith, Central Washington; Tenley Leffler, Montana State Billings; Celia Ramos, Seattle Pacific; Kate Smith, Simon Fraser.

9305VOLLEYBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Delaney Speer – Western Washington University
Second-career player of the week, first this season.

Speer propelled the Vikings to a four-set upset over No. 20 Simon Fraser last week, turning in one of her best performances of the year. The senior matched her season best with 25 kills while posting a .333 attack percentage. Speer added 13 digs, completing her 11th double-double of the campaign. Speer leads the GANC with 3.97 kills per set and 4.60 points per set, while ranking fourth with 0.44 aces per set and 10th with 3.11 digs per set in 2026. Speer’s big performance also pushed her career totals to 1,007 kills and 1,060 digs, making her the 27th player in conference history to join the 1,000-kill/1,000-dig club. Additionally with 109-career service aces, she is one of just 13 players since the league was formed in 2001 to have 1,000 kills, 1,000 digs and 100 aces.

WWU Head Coach Diane Flick-Williams: “I couldn’t be more proud of Delaney. She has been a stable factor at a high level for us all year long. She continues to look at each day as an opportunity to get better, and that consistency is paying off in her senior campaign. To tie her career night against the No. 1 team in the conference and to join the 1,000/1,000 club is the result of all her hard work and, quite frankly, who she is. This is so well deserved.”

Also Nominated: Lee Ivakina, Alaska Anchorage; Haylee Lyons, Alaska; Corinne Westby, Central Washington; Allie Dorman, Montana State Billings; Hailey Cheney, Northwest Nazarene; Emily Garten, Saint Martin’s; Amaya Evans, Seattle Pacific; Nina Kovacevic, Simon Fraser; Kate Markley, Western Oregon.

She followed that with six total blocks to help her team to its ninth-consecutive win with a four-set triumph over Alaska Anchorage. Tri upped her season average to 1.18 blocks per set, ranking her fourth in the GNAC.

CWU Head Coach Lauren Herseth: “Hayli is often the unsung hero – the one who works extremely hard and who we can always rely on to do her job night after night. Last week her block came up big for us in Alaska. She was a difference-maker and provided some key stops at key moments that changed momentum and helped us secure two road wins.”

10554MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Matthew Resnik – Western Oregon University

Resnik continued his strong pace during the 2026 fall season, emerging as the GNAC’s top runner at the Linfield-hosted George Oja Invitational last Saturday. Resnik completed the 8k course with a time of 23:39.5 minutes, good enough for fourth place among a field of 401 competitors. Resnik earned his second weekly award of the fall season and projects as one of the individual title contenders at the upcoming GNAC Championships on Nov. 7 on his home course in Monmouth, Ore.

WOU Head Coach Zach Holloway: “Matt had another big time performance, and he has been rolling this fall and getting better each race. I am excited to see how he races in the postseason.”

Also Nominated: Luke Stockett, Northwest Nazarene; Ryan Koenninger, Saint Martin’s.

10670WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Kyla Potratz – Western Oregon University
First-career runner of the week.

Potratz had similar success to her male counterpart, leading all GNAC runners in the women’s 6k race Saturday. The senior secured her first-career weekly award with a time of 21:20.5 minutes, placing fifth within a field of 320 competitors. Potratz is coming off an all-conference and all-region cross country performance in 2025, finishing fourth at last year’s GNAC Championships and 25th at last year’s NCAA West Region Championships.

WOU Head Coach Zach Holloway: “Kyla had back-to-back strong races with Lewis & Clark and Oja. She spent a lot of the race in a big gap and did a great job staying in the pace and finishing the last 1k hard. She is ready for the postseason.”

Also Nominated: Hazel Kunkel, Northwest Nazarene; Kekaimalino Halpern, Saint Martin’s.

10671WOMEN’S GOLF PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Zoe Garcia – Seattle Pacific University
Second-career player of the week, first this season.

Garcia was the GNAC’s top finisher at last week’s Western Washington Invitational in Bellingham. She posted a two-round score of 1-over-par 145 (69-76) which was good enough for a second-place finish among a field of 46 players. Garcia started out on fire, making five birdies on her way to a 3-under-par 69 her first time through the course. Overall she finished the two-round event with seven birdies and nothing worse than a bogey on her scorecard. A first-team all-conference selection last year, Garcia is coming off a junior campaign in 2025-26 that saw her tie for fourth place at the GNAC Championships and post a season scoring average of 77.2 strokes per round. Through her first six rounds of 2026-27, Garcia has already improved upon that mark as she ranks second in the conference at 75.2 strokes per round.

SPU Head Coach Tyler Copp: “Zoe put together another strong performance for us. She converted up-and-downs at a high rate and only had one 3-putt over the course of 36 holes. It was fun watching her compete down the stretch as she remained in contention and executed shots. We are all excited to move forward to our final two events of the fall season.”

Also Nominated: Ella Tannenberger, Montana State Billings; Zoe Garcia, Seattle Pacific; Dana Smith, Simon Fraser; Jadyn Gracie, Western Washington.
