The Wolves ripped through the back half of their GNAC schedule, going 11-3-5 overall and 7-1-2 in conference play on their way to 23 points to claim the trophy once again. After announcing the addition of men’s soccer as a varsity sport ahead of the 2022 fall season, it has taken WOU just five years of existence to rack up four GNAC trophies including last year’s tournament win. WOU won its first title in 2024, before sharing last year’s regular-season trophy with Seattle Pacific.
The Wolves’ only loss during conference play was a 3-2 setback against Seattle Pacific on Oct. 8 at Interbay Stadium. WOU took the rematch 2-1 on Oct. 22 in Monmouth, Ore., amid its six straight victories to enter the conference tournament on fire. WOU is coming off a 3-0 blanking of Simon Fraser, the other tournament team, on Thursday after the teams tied 0-0 on Sept. 24 in the opening match of the conference season. Last fall in Burnaby, B.C., WOU scraped past Seattle Pacific 2-1 in overtime to win the first-ever men’s conference tournament trophy.
Seattle Pacific came up just one point short on the bid for its second straight regular-season title and its sixth overall since the league was founded in 2001. The Falcons, ranked 16th in the latest United Soccer Coaches national poll, went 15-3-1 overall and 7-2-1 in league play to finish with 22 points and earn the second seed for the second year in-a-row. SPU won the first-ever GNAC tournament game 5-3 over Western Washington in last year’s semifinals, before the narrow, overtime loss to the Wolves in the title tilt.
Simon Fraser earned its first-ever conference tournament berth, wrapping up the regular season at 7-5-5 overall and 5-3-2 in GNAC games for 17 points. The GNAC’s winningest men’s soccer program, with a record eight regular-season trophies since joining as a member in 2010, SFU most recently won the trophy during the 2023 regular season. In their two regular-season meetings with the Falcons, SFU lost 3-1 at Interbay Stadium on Oct. 15 after a 1-1 draw in Burnaby, B.C., on Oct. 1.
The winner of the GNAC Men’s Soccer Championships earns the conference’s automatic berth into the NCAA West Region Championships, which run Nov. 12-14 on campus sites.
