PORTLAND, Ore. – Seattle Pacific’s Zoe Garcia broke the Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s golf two-round scoring record, headlining the latest GNAC Player of the Week selections announced on Monday.

Garcia shot a two-round score of 8-under-par 136 (68-68), tying for first place at the Tim Tierney Pioneer shootout. That topped the previous GNAC two-round record of 140, set by Simon Fraser’s Meera Minhas in March, 2024. On the men’s side, Western Washington’s Rex Wilson also won the tournament he played in, topping a field of 110 players at the Visit Stockton Division II Invitational.

9946WOMEN’S GOLF PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Zoe Garcia – Seattle Pacific University
Second-career player of the week, first this season.

Garcia had a special performance at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout last week, tying for first place among a field of 102 competitors. The Falcon junior carded back-to-back rounds of 4-under-par 68, finishing the tournament with a two-round score of 8-under-par 136. Garcia was nearly flawless in her opening round, carding three birdies and an eagle on the par-5, 451-yard sixth hole to combat just one bogey. Her only poor score of the week was a double-bogey on the par-4 Hole 13 in round two, which she immediately responded from by making four consecutive birdies to finish the tournament 4-under-par over her last eight holes. Overall in the two rounds Garcia made 10 birdies and had just three holes with a score worse than par. Both rounds were career bests, as was her tie for first – she fell on the second playoff hole against CSU San Marcos’s Avery Foster, who ended as the tournament medalist. She was also one stroke off the GNAC single-round record of 67, set by Simon Fraser’s Meera Minhas in 2024. Garcia became the sixth woman in GNAC history to shoot a single-round score of 68 or better and the second (along with Minhas) to achieve the feat on two occasions. Garcia lowered her season scoring average to 77.1 strokes per round, ranking her 10th in the conference so far in 2025-26. “I am really proud of how I played. The past week I have shown that I can play good golf and to go and do it in a tournament is huge for me. I was giving myself good looks while also trying to stay consistent, and I took it one shot at a time.” – Zoe Garcia.

SPU Head Coach Tyler Copp: “Zoe has worked really hard for a moment like this tournament. She has put together some really good rounds in practice and she got the opportunity to show the west region how good she really is. Her distance off the tee, flurry of birdies and ability to manage the tournament one shot at a time was high-level golf. She hit 30 greens in regulation, which gave her look after look for birdies and two-putt pars. We are all very proud of and excited for Zoe’s success. Better yet, she helped our team maintain a sixth-place finish on day two by backing up her 68 with another 68.”

Also Nominated: Caroline Caven, Northwest Nazarene; Kelsie Inouye, Saint Martin’s; Meera Minhas, Simon Fraser; Lauren F. Lee, Western Washington.

9947MEN’S GOLF PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Rex Wilson – Western Washington University
First-career player of the week.

Just as Garcia did on the women’s side, Wilson dominated on the course on his way to a winning score of 5-under-par 139 (72-67). A stellar second round rocketed him 14 spots up the leaderboard and put him one stroke in front of five other players who all tied for second with a score of 140. The difference for Wilson came on the back-nine in Round 2, where he posted an eagle, two birdies and six pars to finish the event with a 4-under-par 32. He added a pair of birdies on the front-nine, shooting a season-best 5-under-par 67 overall on the round. Overall in the 36-hole event, Wilson made nine birdies to go along with his eagle on the par-5, 535-yard 16th hole. The sophomore lowered his season scoring average to 72.0 strokes per round, moving him into a tie for third place on the GNAC leaderboard.

WWU Head Coach Luke Bennett: “Rex capped off an outstanding week with a brilliant finish at the Visit Stockton Invite. He delivered a sensational final-round 67, showcasing confident ball-striking and clutch putting when it mattered most. His strong performance under pressure set the tone for the team’s closing surge. It was a statement round in a championship-winning effort.”

9855BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Coleman Parry – Northwest Nazarene University
Second-career player of the week, second this season.

Parry helped lead the Nighthawks to a 4-0 start to their conference campaign, as they swept Western Oregon at home last week. Through his first 14 games of the season, Parry leads the GNAC with a .440 batting average, 10 doubles and a slugging percentage of .760.

NNU Head Coach Joe Schaefer: “Coleman had one of the better weekends of anyone on our team up to this point. He had two big doubles and two big home runs on day one which helped us get two wins. He has become a mainstay in our lineup and is proving he can really hit.”

Also Nominated: Kaiden Hernandez, Central Washington; Ryker Fortier, Montana State Billings; Kyle Schabot, Saint Martin’s; Chris Arce, Western Oregon.

9892BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Brennen Chappell – Montana State University Billings
Third-career pitcher of the week, second this season.

Chappell had another stellar start for the Yellowjackets, allowing zero earned runs while striking out eight hitters across seven innings pitched against Central Washington. That contribution helped MSUB emerge with a 3-1 series victory on their opening GNAC road trip of the season. Chappell allowed just seven baserunners in his seven innings of work, scattering five hits and issuing a pair of walks. It marked the third time this season that the right-hander has gone at least six innings in a start, and his strikeout total was his second highest of the year. Chappell lowered his season ERA to 5.53, and his 31 strikeouts so far in 2026 are the most by any GNAC pitcher.

MSUB Head Coach Derek Waddoups: “Chappell seemed to get stronger as the game continued to progress this past weekend. He did a great job of throwing strike one, which led to shorter innings and allowed him to pitch later in the game. We made it interesting late and he pitched through some adversity to get the complete-game win.”

Also Nominated: Garet Hagy, Central Washington; Corbin Talley, Northwest Nazarene; Blaze Wong, Saint Martin’s.

9949SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Olivia Matlock – Western Washington University
Second-career player of the week, first this season.

Matlock led all GNAC nominees last week with seven RBIs, supplying the run production in her team’s 3-2 trip to California. In the Vikings’ victory over Stanislaus State, Matlock went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. She followed with a season-high three RBIs in a 2-for-4 performance against Cal State San Marcos. Overall in five games last week she hit .438 (7-for-16). She was also a rock defensively at first base, committing zero errors in 36 total chances and helping the Vikings turn three double plays.

WWU Head Coach Sheryl Gilmore: “It was great to see Liv settle in and be herself at the plate this weekend. We have been pulling her in a lot of different directions, between learning how to pitch again, getting her work in on defense and hitting, and she has handled it well and has been working really hard for the team. When Liv trusts herself in the box, she is a scary hitter. She came up clutch for the team with runners on this weekend with seven big RBIs. Every time, she was just focusing on getting a base hit to score her teammates. It is a testament to how much she wants the team to be successful.”

Also Nominated: Lizzy Turpen, Central Washington; Marleigh Nieto, Montana State Billings; Paisley Noyer, Northwest Nazarene; Heather Ebner, Saint Martin’s; Cassidy Affeldt, Simon Fraser; Madelynne Hommel, Western Oregon.

9950SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Evalyn Massena – Western Washington University
First-career pitcher of the week.

Massena contributed in all three of the Vikings’ wins last week, earning a pair of victories herself across three strong outings. Her standout performance was a 5-inning shutout against Cal State East Bay on Saturday, as she allowed just two hits and five baserunners while striking out three in the efficient, 61-pitch performance. She also limited Chico State to just one run across 4 1/3 innings earlier in the day, helping the Vikings claim a 4-1 triumph. Overall in 12 innings pitched, Massena struck out six, allowed seven hits and posted an ERA of 1.75.

WWU Head Coach Sheryl Gilmore: “I don’t think there are enough words to describe how proud we all are of Evy. She has worked so hard to be in this position to fight for our team. She tore her ACL in our very first week of practice last season and she has worked so hard in physical therapy, the weight room and the training room to come back stronger. As if that wasn’t big enough of a challenge, she essentially had to re-learn how to pitch after not throwing to a batter since high school She shows up, works hard, never complains and has just gotten better every day. Evy is grit personified and is the ultimate competitor.”

Also Nominated: Brooke Baker, Central Washington; Lily Delamora, Northwest Nazarene; Monica Bourque, Simon Fraser; Penny-Lew Barnett, Western Oregon.
