NAMPA, Idaho - Mary Trigg, who has been an assistant coach at Sacramento State University and San Francisco State University,  has been named the new women’s head soccer coach at Northwest Nazarene University.

“Mary brings a high level of collegiate coaching experience to Northwest Nazarene University," NNU athletic director Bill Rapp said.

"She has had success serving as an assistant coach at both the NCAA Division I and Division II levels,” Rapp commented.  “The combination of her coaching and playing experience at high levels will help her elevate our women’s soccer program.”

Trigg was an assistant at Sacramento State for the past two seasons and was in the same position at San Francisco State from 2008 until 2011.

While at SFSU, Trigg helped guide her teams to a pair of NCAA Division II playoff appearances and a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) championship in 2010.

"I would like to thank Northwest Nazarene University President (David) Alexander, Athletic Director Bill Rapp and the NNU community for the opportunity to become the women’s soccer head coach at this tremendous university,” Trigg said.

“I am so thankful to be a part of a university that provides me with the opportunity to combine my Christian faith with my coaching. I'm thrilled about the direction this program is headed and I'm excited to start leading this talented team of student-athletes as we begin the hard work necessary to prepare us for a successful fall season.”

Trigg played three years at NCAA Division I Fresno State University and completed her collegiate playing career at NCAA Division I Campbell University in North Carolina. Following her year at Campbell University, she played in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) with the San Francisco Nighthawks.

During her time at Fresno State, the Bulldogs captured Western Athletic Conference (WAC) championships in both 2005 and 2006 - including an undefeated record in conference play in which they did not surrender a goal during the 2006 conference season.

A three-time Western Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete, Trigg was also a two-time WAC All-Academic selection and an All-Atlantic Sun Conference Academic selection as a senior at Campbell.

Active in the Sacramento-area club soccer scene, Trigg has coached with the Sacramento United FC soccer club, the Alpine FC soccer club and served as a District II Olympic Development Program evaluator.

Trigg earned a Master’s Degree in Sports Management from California University of Pennsylvania in 2010, completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications and Journalism from Fresno State in 2008 and holds a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Advanced National Diploma.
