PORTLAND, Ore. – Western Oregon’s
Jacob Solek scored a breathtaking, scissor-kick goal on Saturday to highlight the latest Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week selections announced on Monday.
MEN’S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jacob Solek – Western Oregon University
First-career player of the week.
Solek’s stunning goal came amid a 5-0 trouncing of UT Tyler by the Wolves and was the first of two goals that he scored in the game. The Wolves won a corner kick in the 80th minute and Solek positioned himself in line with the near post around the penalty spot. He timed his volley perfectly on a good service from
Abokye Bikyeombe, meeting the ball with his right foot and smashing home an unstoppable shot into the back of the net. He doubled his tally 10 minutes later, sealing the offensive outburst by tucking home a 14-yard finish on a pass from Dominic Lemuz. They were the first two goals of Solek’s collegiate career, after he saw limited minutes in six matches in 2025 and has primarily come off the bench to start his sophomore campaign in 2026.
Also Nominated: Juan Diaz, Saint Martin’s; Lucas Witthauer, Seattle Pacific; Leontios Zacharia, Simon Fraser; Tommy Carroll, Western Washington.
MEN’S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Elijah Brockl – Northwest Nazarene University
First-career player of the week.
Brockl was responsible for a pair of shutouts last week, helping the Nighthawks make it four wins in their last five matches. Brockl came away with four saves in each of NNU’s wins last week, helping the team to a 1-0 result over West Texas A&M and a 2-0 triumph over St. Mary’s. The sophomore’s four shutouts and 0.73 goals-against average this season are the best among any GNAC goalkeeper, and he ranks second in the conference with a save percentage of .833.
NNU Head Coach Julio Castillo: “Elijah has been great for us in the last few games and this past week it was rewarding to see him and the group get two clean sheets. We can rely on Elijah to do his job and he goes out of his way to communicate and help his teammates on and off the field.”
Also Nominated: Willem Ficek, Seattle Pacific; Eli White, Western Oregon; Quinn Sappington, Western Washington.
VOLLEYBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ellie Marble – Central Washington University
Second-career player of the week, first this season.
Marble led all GNAC players in kills per set (5.00) and points per set (5.58) last week, helping the Wildcats sweep both Alaska Anchorage and Alaska for two conference victories. In CWU’s triumph over UAA on Thursday, Marble led the way with 17 kills while adding 11 digs to complete her second double-double of the season. She followed that with 13 kills in Saturday’s sweep of the Nanooks. Efficient with her swings, Marble posted a hitting percentage of .391 which was third-best among all GNAC players in last week’s matches. The senior upped her career count to 762 kills and owns a career average of 2.59 kills per set. Her 3.60 kills per set this fall rank her fourth among GNAC hitters.
CWU Head Coach Lauren Herseth: “It has been really fun to watch Ellie's game transform over the last six months. She put in a lot of work offensively last spring, and to see her reap the benefits this fall is special. Ellie sets the bar in our gym; she is the heartbeat of our team, and her leadership was critical to our success last week.”
Also Nominated: Cynphany Henderson, Alaska; Allie Dorman, Montana State Billings; Megan Omlid, Seattle Pacific; Katarina Damnjanovic, Simon Fraser; Emily Vossenkuhl, Western Washington.
VOLLEYBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Christina Lopez – Seattle Pacific University
Second-career player of the week, first this season.
Lopez fueled a pair of GNAC wins for Seattle Pacific, contributing both on the defensive and offensive sides of the ball. In a five-set triumph over Western Oregon on Thursday, she led the team with 24 digs – her second-highest total of the season – while adding six assists and four service aces. She followed that with an 11-dig performance in Saturday’s sweep of Saint Martin’s, as the Falcons improved to 3-1 in conference play. Lopez ranks second in the GNAC with 4.32 digs per set this season and ninth with 0.40 aces per set. Lopez upped her career total to 1,307 digs and her average of 4.31 digs per set ranks in the top-30 in GNAC history.
SPU Head Coach Jason Rhine: “Christina is always a leader on our team and she played great this past weekend. She found a ton of digs against Western Oregon when we anticipated a defensive battle and needed to rise to the challenge. Christina added several aces on the weekend while serving tough and knocking both teams out of system. Serving more aggressively and consistently was one of Christina's goals during the offseason and her performance shows how she continues working to improve even in her senior year. Christina is an intense competitor who also works hard to bring out the best in her teammates. I am really grateful for the opportunity I've had to see Christina impact the team as she grows on and off the court.”
Also Nominated: Peri Hoshock, Alaska; Hayli Tri, Central Washington; Addyson Quandt, Montana State Billings; Jenna Holm, Northwest Nazarene; Macyn Unger, Simon Fraser; Madi Noel, Western Oregon; Chayse Flick-Williams, Western Washington.
WOMEN’S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kiera Scott – Simon Fraser University
Fourth-career player of the week, second this season.
Scott led all GNAC players in last week’s matches with five total points, scoring a goal and adding three assists amid an offensive rampage by the Red Leafs. SFU cruised to a pair of GNAC victories by out-scoring its opponents 11-1 on the weekend, and Scott was at the heart of the high-octane attack. The first-team all-conference striker recorded her first-career multi-assist game in Thursday’s 4-0 blanking of Central Washington, setting up teammates Dariella Lopez and Katelyn Magdalinski for two goals that came within a span of two minutes late in the match. In Saturday’s 7-1 blowout of Northwest Nazarene, Scott assisted Camryn Strain in the 51st minute before scoring the final goal of the match in the 70th minute. Scott upped her tally to four goals and five assists this fall, as she leads all GNAC players with 13 total points. Her 2.17 points per game rank her 13th among all players in NCAA Division II. Last week’s performance upped the senior’s career numbers to 25 goals, 11 assists, 61 points and 1.02 points per game.
SFU Head Coach Carlo Basso: “Kiera was important for us again this week, providing goals and assists across both matches. She is making the right decisions around the box and is being rewarded with goal contributions because of it. She was one of many who shone offensively this week, and the staff is excited to build on our start to conference play.”
Also Nominated: Kylee Schreck, Central Washington; Abby Thompson, Montana State Billings; Sophie Hanay, Seattle Pacific.
WOMEN’S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Landry Schoennauer – Seattle Pacific University
First-career player of the week.
Seattle Pacific won both its GNAC matches last week thanks in large part to a pair of shutout performances by Schoennauer between the posts. The senior made both saves required of her in each of the team’s matches as the Falcons knocked off both Saint Martin’s and Western Oregon by scores of 3-0. It marked the first two shutouts of the season for Schoennauer as she lowered her goals-against average to 1.27 and upped her save percentage to 0.696.
SPU Head Coach Arby Busey: “Landry contributed to two shutouts last week. She and her teammates played very well defensively over the two games. Whenever we needed a big save she was there. She also was great starting our attack with her distribution.”
Also Nominated: Danika Galbraith, Central Washington; Tenley Leffler, Montana State Billings; Kate Smith, Simon Fraser; Blake Francis, Western Washington.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Luke Stockett – Northwest Nazarene University
First-career runner of the week.
Stockett won the Northwest Nazarene Invitational on his home course last week, topping a field of 103 competitors for his first win of the year. Stockett clocked in with an 8k time of 24:42.6 – identical to his older brother Ian Stockett – as the siblings crossed the finish line in virtual tandem. In his junior season as a Nighthawk, Luke has gotten off to a strong start this fall after running 24:17.9 minutes in his debut 8k of the season on Sept. 4.
NNU Head Coach Greg Mitchell: "I feel like this should be a Co-Runner of the Week award as the Stockett Bros ran side by side for 8k and fist bumped as they crossed the line, but timing chips aren't as sentimental as I am, so Luke got the W. That said, Luke is an incredible talent on the track and is starting to figure out this cross country thing. I have no doubt he's going to have a pretty impressive fall campaign."
Also Nominated: Ryan Koenninger, Saint Martin’s.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Hazel Kunkel – Northwest Nazarene University
First-career runner of the week.
Kunkel finished second among a field of 88 women’s runners at the NNU Invitational, checking in with a 6k time of 22:19.1 minutes. The sophomore projects as a top finisher at this year’s conference meet, after she placed 16th as a freshman last season.
NNU Head Coach Greg Mitchell: "Hazel was sick for most of the week and spent our workout on Wednesday in bed, so for her to be battling for the win after a week like that is pretty impressive. She's a gamer so anytime the gun goes off, she's going to be a factor. I think we're going to see some pretty astonishing things from her this season."
Also Nominated: Julie Johnson, Central Washington; Kekaimalino Halpern, Saint Martin’s.
WOMEN’S GOLF PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Emy Cambuzat – Montana State University Billings
First-career player of the week.
Cambuzat was the top GNAC player at the season-opening Travis Roy Memorial tournament in Sheridan, Wyo., last week. The Yellowjacket sophomore carded a 13-over-par 229 (78-78-73) to finish in a tie for sixth place among a field of 67 competitors. Cambuzat saved her best round for last, delivering five birdies on her way to a 1-over-par 73 her third time through the course to vault up the leaderboard. Cambuzat is coming off a freshman season in which she averaged 81.9 strokes per round and placed 20th at the GNAC Championships.
MSUB Head Coach Adam Buie: “Emy had a productive summer and worked hard to get better. She had three solid rounds in the 70s on a Powder Horn course that was playing pretty difficult with 30 mile-per-hour winds each day. I am happy to see the progress and am looking forward to what she does this year.”
Also Nominated: Bri-Ela Nakagawa, Saint Martin’s.
